A fault code is a clue, not an automatic part number to order. It describes what the ECU observed; wiring, power, the sensor environment or another system may be the cause.
Combine fault codes with symptoms, live data, measurements and mechanical inspection. The same reasoning remains useful on older vehicles with limited diagnostics.
Read the full code and freeze-frame or live data where available. Look up the system description and check power, ground, wiring and sensor plausibility before replacing the sensor.
